You start meditating by becoming mindful of the present moment. But after a few moments, your mind wanders. But you'll not realise that your mind has wandered for some time once you have the realisation that your mind has wandered.
You go back to concentrating on the present moment. And that completes one rep of brain curls. That's how you exercise the strongest tool of your body.
