Competition is Good for You

But comparison isn't

Competition is Good for You

If you look at any self-improvement creator they'll tell you one thing. Don't compare yourself to others. Just become better than your past version, which is pretty good advice. But they forget to mention one thing:

"Comparison is bad for you but Competition isn't"

Suppose Usain Bolt wouldn't compete against others and only focused on beating his past self. Then it's less likely that he would be known as "The Fastest Man Alive".

The same goes for every legend you know of. Michael Phelps, Will Smith, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk. All of them faced competition head-on. And that's why they won. They didn't think about beating their past version. They focused on beating the person in front of them.

So, It's nothing wrong to compete with someone. If you have the drive to be better than others, it's a good thing. You don't have to limit yourself to only beating yourself because competition is how our species evolved.

When we were hunters and gatherers we would compete against hunters and gatherers of other tribes to get the food for our tribe. And if we failed, our whole tribe would go through hunger.

And we also have the same drive today too. So, Instead of being jealous of anyone's success. Take action ruthlessly. Compete ruthlessly. Because It would take you places where consistency and discipline cannot.
